The OS as filmmaking environment

The new series I created for Scientific American premieres today. It’s a newscast-as-screencast concept.

Screencasts have fascinated me ever since I saw The Machine is Us/ing Us. We all spend so much time in the interactive environment of our computer screens—why not make that literal, as a shooting location”? This seemed especially appropriate to an online news-vodcast. I was also sick to death of the Rocketboom/Wallstrip model, which to my mind just apes old media too much. So this is a reaction to that as well.

Special thanks goes out to Michael Pick, who answered my Mac-screencaster questions with consummate know-how. We both share an interest in screencasting as a new narrative form, not just for software demos.
